Hilo 2016
Hilo is built in the middle of a Jungle, all the local farmers have goats to try to keep the jungle at bay, and it is really neat to
drive around and realize that there is dense jungle on both sides of the road.
One nice thing about Hilo is it is not nearly as commercialized, the zoo and most waterfall views are free. The Farmers market
has local wares on Wednesday and Saturday, that was one of the highlights for me.

They had a cockatoo! That got really sad when we started to leave and said "Nobody likes you" to himself. When Katherine said "I
like you" he said "No you don't." He was pretty funny to talk to.

These caves are old Lava Tubes, the book said they go for miles if you want to explore that far.

There is moss growing everywhere, they get over 120 inches of rain a year, just 100 more than I get back home
The Rainbow falls is close to Hilo as well:

We stayed in Anott's Lodge, if price is your main concern, this is the place. They had a coin laundry and nice common areas.

They had Macadamia nut orchards, Mauna Loa has some great chocolate covered nuts!

We stayed at a B&B that had a wonderful garden and koi river in the back yard.

Breakfast was papaya and pinapple from the garden, with a whole bunch of other stuff.
